A Question

Wednesday, August 8, 2007

I have decided on a hat pattern to knit.

Meet Triple-Patterned Watch Cap from “Hats On!” It should be a fun knit. But I have a question on the pattern already. As you can see, the cuff has a stranded pattern also. It is knit on the reversed side so that when your flip the cuff up it shows off the pattern. The instruction tells you to knit the cuff pattern, then TURN and start knitting the body. Turn? That simple? I imagine that you turn the tube inside out, then continue knitting in the opposite direction? (Which is still going to the left after turning the tube inside out.) Without cutting the yarn? Would that cause any problem? Oops! That’s not just A question.

I am still PLANNING to knit a fair isle scarf. Still not much luck searching on the Internet for a good pattern. Guess I’ll have to try to come up with one. I just wonder how I will determine how much yarn to get.

I am also very very tempted to start a new lace project. It’s all Jane and Alice’s fault. Showing us all that lovely lace knitting. I am thinking Spider Queen? Yeah, I know, I have that Candle Flame Shawl I started months ago. It is just kind of boring. I am going to rip it and knit something else with it.

Here are some scary stuff for you. We were looking through photos that Mom kept in her house. I came across some of my old pictures:

Me at 16! Now, I don’t want to be that skinny again. But I really don’t mind having a thin face again. Ha ha! Hmmm… How about growing my hair long…

    That watch cap hat is a beauty! Dude, you were such a cute 16 year old!
    I’m just now ‘sorta kinda’ catching up but still don’t have much in the way of ‘pc’ time…..sigh. It was a real treat seeing your comment.

    Turn. It’s that simple. Try it and you’ll see.

    Nice to see you posting again.

  3. I think they are assuming you are doing this on the round if it means turn , I believe you can only turn by turning the work inside out and then keep on knitting. . Or you can purl the cuff this way it will be knit when you fold thi and then continue the hat as per the instructions. Hope this helps.

    I would think turning the cuff inside out is all you’d need to do. It’s a great looking pattern.

    I agree with Marianne; you were a cute 16 year old :)

    When I enlarged the picture right off your blog, it looked like there were 2 rows of garter right at the base of the brim, Did anybody else see that? who knows…..I just did something similar with a sleave cuff and it does work, ted and andres are right……

    @Marianne, thanks! :blush:

    @Ted, I will try. You know me. I’d like to think things through. :-)

    @Andy, it’s in the round. I just wonder if it is more complicated than it sounds. :lol:

    @Julie, thanks! :blush:

    @Matty, yes, there are garter stitches. I just wonder if this techniques causes problems. Sounds like it’s safe to go ahead. :lol: It’s nice to know others tried it with success. :-)

    I think you should go ahead and knit a different bit of lace if the Candle Flame is boring. It’s supposed to be fun, not tortue. As for color knitting, I have no advice since I eschew color knitting. I just can’t get into it at all. I’m always envious of people who like it and can do it well. I think the hat looks great and you are getting great advice already.
