Happy Lunar New Year! The family had a quick dinner last night for New Year’s Eve. More family will arrive today from Taiwan, and we’ll have another dinner celebration in a restaurant. Anyway, I was able to present the shawl to my mother. She hasn’t been feeling well lately, but I think she really liked it. She also remarked that it was her favorite shade of red. Phew! My sister Lily said, “for me, I want golden yellow.” Yes. That was her way of telling me to make her one. Not asking. Telling. OK, more like demanding. Wait another year sister!
Here are a few pictures. First is one I took right after blocking. I wasn’t so sure if there would be willing models to pose for pictures. Mom wasn’t feeling well, so I am only showing one of her walking away. I got my little niece to pose for me, but she couldn’t stay put for too long.
Pattern: Lotus Blossom Shawl by Fiddlesticks Knitting, purchased on Blackberry Ridge.
Yarn: KnitPicks’ Palette. Fingering weight, 2-ply.
Needle: KnitPicks’ Options, US Size 8.
I used little more than two balls of Palette. The resulting fabric drapes really really well. It is stretchy and bounces back in shape. I like it.

Bravo Jason! Your shawl is just lovely. It looks terrific on your mother and you have now encountered the common problem for knitters of lace. Once they see some of your work, the requests for a shawl of their own start coming in! You also have now experienced one of the other things about knitting for others. It’s hard to hold onto any of that lace for yourself:-) Congratulations on a beautiful piece of lacework!
Jason wrote: Thanks Jane! Now onto something for myself. Sweater. Better try the first one on me first.
I will probably knit this shawl again, for my sister. But not yet. I want somethng different.
Jason, Lotus Blossom is beyond beautiful, and Happy New Year to you! and what a lovely way to start the new year…gifting your lovely mom with a beautiful lace shawl….that’s very touching.
I guess I missed that bit of info in earlier posts, Knitpicks Palette,eh? I just got out my colour chart and looking at that red and it is a very good RED.
Lace is magic, good lovely magic.
Peace be with you this coming year as you live, learn, and love.
Jason wrote: Thank you Marianne. Happy New Year. I lucked out with Palette. The biggest reason for puchasing that yarn was the nice red. I really lucked out that it worked.
Peace be with you always.
Lovely, Jason!
Looking forward to seeing what you knit up in the New Year!
Jason wrote: Thank you Alice! I can’t wait to see you finish WRS.
Gorgeous. And a great picture of your niece in motion, I think.
Remember last year when you were sweating bullets about “Violets by the River”?
Jason wrote: Oh yes. I remember. I was afraid to begin anything without asking you first.
Thank you for being there and making those alterations. I got a better result because of you.
Absolutely beautiful! I like the motion picture, too.
