Has anyone had any experience with Peace Fleece? I wonder how it’s like knitted into a garment. Scratchy or not? Knitter’s Review did a review in 2004. But I still wonder…
I recently joined a group of friends in a fun knit-along. The idea is to knit a sweater using Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Percentage System. Help each other with problem solving. Encourage each other on. Perfect! I have been wanting to try my hands on knitting an adult size sweater! After some research, I decided to use Jacqueline Fee’s “The Sweater Workshop” for the project. Now the hard part… yarn selection…
It’s between Peace Fleece (70% Wool, 30% Mohair. Worsted or DK) and KnitPicks‘ Merino Style (DK). Knitting with 100% Merino is tempting, but I love Peace Fleece’s color choices. Plus I like the idea of helping out other parts of the world. I am really not adventurous when it comes to selecting yarn. I think I am the type that just enjoy a good knitting session. Hmmm… I should think about spinning my own yarn for the next sweater.
Anyway. Please let me know of your opinion on Peace Fleece? It will be most appreciated!

Dear Jason,
I’m really liking the peace fleece! really interesting colors. As for spinning the yarn for a sweater. I’ve done that before and it does take awhile to get enough yarn, depending on what weight yarn you are spinning for. I still have one of those sweaters which I have in the car for really unexpected cold spells. It’s too big but I still love it! It was alot of fun to spin and to knit it up afterwards. Try spinning it through the Summer so you will have something to knit in the fall when it’s cold.
You might ask Kim Salazar, or at least look at the yarn reviews on http://www.wiseneedle.com/ There might be a review of the yarn there.
Congrats on doing the knitalong with a Zimmermann Sweater: you’ll learn lots.
Dear Jane, I have decided to go with Peace Fleece. Something new. And like you, I love the colors! Couple of people told me that it softens nicely after washing. I have sensitive skin, but not to wool. (Crossing my fingers) So, I am going to go ahead and order some. I just wonder if I want to go with DK or Worsted. I’ve been told that their worsted is really heavy.
Spinning in Summer. Yuck! But I’ll do it.
I was inexperienced when I started spinning last Summer. The sweat didn’t help.
Dear Ted, I tried that website but couldn’t find any Peace Fleece. Maybe I’ll do a review in the future?
